Our Story

Reviving the ancient art of Sri Lankan puppetry for a new generation.

The Tradition

Rookada (Puppetry) in Sri Lanka has a rich history dating back centuries. Traditionally performed in rural villages, these shows were a primary source of entertainment and storytelling. The puppets, carved from Kaduru wood and dressed in vibrant costumes, bring to life legends, folktales, and historical events.

However, in recent times, this magnificent art form has faced a decline. The demand has lowered, and many traditional artisans struggle to sustain their livelihood. We believe that this cultural treasure deserves to be preserved and celebrated.

Traditional Puppets

Our Vision

We are creating a new concept for Rookada shows, specifically designed for tourists and modern audiences. While respecting the traditional roots, we are introducing English comedy dramas and shorter, more engaging scripts.

Our goal is to provide a sustainable income for the talented puppeteers and mask makers while offering visitors a unique, high-quality cultural experience near Colombo. By booking a ticket or buying a souvenir, you are directly supporting this community.
